Chief Operations Officer
Chris McDonald is an expert at starting-up and operating large-scale manufacturing facilities, having successfully delivered multiple projects over the course of his executive career at Applied Materials, Samsung, and Intel. McDonald previously served as Vice President of Factory Projects for Applied Materials' Solar Business Group, responsible for delivering turn-key factory start-up projects to Applied Materials' customers, successfully starting and completing 14 production lines in six countries.
Before Applied Materials, McDonald was Senior Vice President of Plant Operations for Samsung Austin Semiconductor, where he was responsible for all aspects of a high-volume state-of-the-art factory. McDonald also spent 20 years at Intel, with his most recent position as Plant Manager in charge of start-up and operations for a semiconductor fabrication plant. While at Intel, McDonald spent three years on assignment at International SEMATECH as director of the Advanced Technology Development Facility.
McDonald was closely involved in the start up of the Fab 10 facility for Intel Ireland, where he was responsible for all manufacturing, equipment maintenance and manufacturing engineering. A key accomplishment was McDonald defining the "copy EXACTLY!" technology transfer methodology and systems.
McDonald has published articles and taught courses on Technology Transfer, Training, Statistical Process Control, Yield Management and Manufacturing. He received his B.Sc. in Electronics from the University of Southampton, UK, and his M.E. in Electrical Engineering from National Technological University in the US. McDonald also holds a M.Eng. in Engineering Managment from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand and a M.Sc. in International Technology Management from the University of Warwick in the UK.
